HAZY, HOT, AND HUMID CONDITIONS ARRIVE UNDER A MIX OF SUN AND
CLOUDS….
The triple H weather of early July has finally returned to the
region this week. Today has featured a mix of sun and clouds
after an overcast start from a stratus layer. Conditions have
become quite nasty this afternoon with the combination of
temperatures nearing 90F and the dew point rising into the mid
70s. It is quite oppressive out there this afternoon. Use caution
if doing any activity outdoors and drink plenty of non-alcoholic
beverages.
As mentioned, temperatures have warmed to near 90F by early
this afternoon. With the dew point in the mid 70s, the heat
index has exceeded the 96F! A heat advisory is in effect through
tomorrow for heat index values reaching around 100F.
Winds have generally been on the light side today, thus it hasn’t
been of much help in trying to offer any relief. A southwest to
west-southwest flow has been averaging at around 8mph for the day
so far. The gustiest part of the day, at least so far, was during
the wee hours of the morning when the peak gust of 20mph occurred.
Visibility started the day quite limited due to fog, with a view
of 15 miles or less. It has actually improved to around 40 miles
by early this afternoon despite the increase in dew point values.
The maximum temperature so far today is 89F, which is 8 degrees
above the normal high of 81F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 68F, which is 4 degrees above the normal low of 64F.
