INCREASING AFTERNOON CLOUDS WITH CONTINUED HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY
TO START OFF THE FIRST WEEKEND IN AUGUST….
Today started off hazy and hot, with tropical like overnight
temperatures and light winds. Skies have remained mostly clear
with the exception of increasing cumulus as the afternoon came
into view. It’s been another warm and humid day but not record-
breaking thankfully.
Temperatures only made it to 73F during the overnight before a
rapid increase into the low 90’s by afternoon. The 73F is tied
for a high minimum temperature that was set in 2018 and 2022.
With dew points in the low to mid 70’s, the air has felt tropical
and muggy. With these higher than typical dew points and low 90F
temperatures, the heat index has been in the upper 90s for much
of the early afternoon hours.
Winds have light again today, with a westerly flow turning more
west-northwesterly by mid morning. The average for the day so far
is around 8mph, though the wind has started to increase in the last
couple of hours. The peak gust for the day so far is 19mph, which
occurred just after 12pm this afternoon.
Visibility has slowly increased today, which also conincided with
a slight drop in dew points from 74F to 70F. The 7am visibility was
only around 30 miles but marginally improved to 40 miles by 1pm.
The maximum temperature so far today is 92F, which is 11 degrees
above the normal high of 81F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 73F, which is 9 degrees above the normal low of 64F.
