Part-Time Educator
We’re looking for enthusiastic, reliable contract educators to lead engaging, hands-on science and outdoor education programs for K–12 student groups.
Blue Hill Observatory sits atop Great Blue Hill and is the oldest continuously operating weather observatory in the Western Hemisphere. Our educators help students connect weather, climate, ecology and local history through real instruments, outdoor exploration and place-based learning.
Role summary
Educators lead school field trips and public education programs at the Observatory, mostly on weekdays during the day. Programs can take place indoors, outdoors, on the trails and in the historic tower. The schedule depends on school bookings, but you’ll need regular weekday availability in both mornings and afternoons.

- Lead safe, welcoming hikes on Great Blue Hill that bring in weather, ecology and Observatory history
- Adapt activities and explanations for different grade levels, learning styles, group needs and weather conditions
- Prepare program materials, help maintain education supplies and reset spaces after programs
- Work with the education team, visitor-services staff and volunteers to give students and teachers a high-quality experience
- Uphold the Observatory’s standards for student safety, professionalism, inclusion and stewardship of the site
