MORNING DENSE FOG, TURNING WARMER AND WINDY INTO THIS AFTERNOON….
A few rain showers moved through in the pre-dawn hours this morning
associated with a warm front that pushed through. Only 0.02″ of rain
was left behind by these light showers. More impactful was the dense
fog that persisted through the morning hours reducing visibility to
as low as 1/16th of a mile for a good chunk of the morning.
As we push into the early afternoon hours, the fog is lifting, but
overcast skies remain. As we get fully into the warm sector, both
the temperature and wind speeds have been heading upwards.
Temperatures steadily rose since midnight, but started to rise more
rapidly by the mid morning hours. Readings have reached the mid 50s
by early this afternoon. Likewise, the dew point has also been rising
in tandem with the air temperature, thus keeping the air mass pretty
saturated.
The wind, which spent most of yesterday on the light side, has been
increasing in speed through the morning out of the south-southwest. The
average speed for the day so far is around 14mph. Gusts have been
ramping up as well exceeding 30mph at times. The peak gust so far is
35mph, which occurred just before, and then again just after 10am this
morning.
As mentioned, visibility was quite limited this morning with the
dense fog keeping it under a 1/4 mile. However, as the fog lifted,
the view did improve to around 20 miles for a time, but has since
dropped back below 6 miles by the 1pm observation as the ceiling
lowers again and fog redevelops.
The maximum temperature for today is 56F degrees, which is 7 degrees
above the normal high of 49F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 38F degrees, which is 6 degrees above the normal low of 32F.
