CALMER CONDITIONS TODAY, DRY AND SUNNY WITH LIGHT WIND…
Yesterday’s all day rain event netted us 2.11″ inches for the 7th,
with a total of 2.17″ for the storm total. The 2.11″ ties our daily
precipitation record for the day, which was set in 1966. With this
hefty amount of rain, that puts our monthly departure to +1.45″ and
seasonal to -7.12″. Winds were also quite gusty yesterday during
the storm, with a peak gust of 40mph occurring at 5:43pm EST.
Today, conditions are much calmer. The day started out under partly
cloudy skies, with decreasing clouds as the day progressed. A few
fair weather cumulus clouds have been present throughout the day
and with rising dew points, visibility has remained limited as well.
Temperatures started cooler than average as yesterday’s low pushed
out to sea. This morning, temperatures were in the low 60s and with
a northerly flow, it was quite refreshing. With all day sunshine and
building heat, we have risen to the upper 70’s by the early afternoon
hours. This is still below normal for this time of year, but with
dew points in the upper 50’s it still feels like summer.
Wind was a little more steady during the beginning of the day when
the direction was northerly. Since shifting to the east, the wind
speed has slowed considerably. The average speed for the day so far is
around 9mph, with a downward trend. The peak gust so far for the day
is 26mph, which occurred at 12:16am this morning.
Visibility has fluctuated between 35-40 miles today, with a slightly
decreasing visibility as daytime heat has continued to build.
The maximum temperature so far today is 77F, which is 4 degrees below
the normal high of 81F. The minimum temperature since midnight is 58F,
which is 5 degrees below the normal low of 63F.
