THE ARCTIC AIR MASS SLOWLY RETREATS WITH WARM AIR ADVECTION
TAKING OVER; MESSY WINTRY WEATHER A RESULT….
As is often the case with a change in the air mass, clouds, and
eventually messy weather are usually the result. Today is no
different as sunshine early this morning was quickly overtaken
by increasing high, and then mid level clouds. Very light snow
began falling just after 12:30pm and should continue through
the afternoon before becoming a wintry mix this evening.
We had another very cold start to the day, albeit not quite as
cold as yesterday morning. Lows in the mid teens rose rather
steadily to the low 30s by late morning. Dew point values however
have remained in the teens, indicative of the dense arctic air
trying to hold on for as long as it can.
The wind has been generally on the light side again today out
of a southerly direction. The average speed for the day so far
is around 10mph. The peak gust for the day so far is 21mph, which
occurred just before 9am this morning.
Visibility was average through the morning at around 50 miles, but
has now slipped down early this afternoon as the snow moves in.
It’s down to around 15-30 miles at the 1pm observation.
The maximum temperature so far today is 32F degrees at midnight,
which is 8 degrees below the normal high of 40F. The minimum
temperature since midnight is 17F degrees, which is 6 degrees
below the normal low of 23F.
