SUNSHINE THIS MORNING BECOMING VERY FILTERED BY WILDFIRE SMOKE
BY EARLY THIS AFTERNOON…
Skies feature high thin cirrus clouds through most of the
morning allowing for some filtered sunshine. However a band of
wildfire smoke aloft moved over the region by late this morning
into early this afternoon. This smoke is thick enough that it’s
mostly filtering out the sun and has ended the temperature rise
for the time being. The sky also has a bit of orange hue to it
indicating that the smoke layer is fairly thick.
The temperature was rising fairly rapidly through the morning
reaching the mid 80s by late this morning, but as mentioned,
since the smoke layer has overspread the area, readings have
leveled off, and even fallen a bit back to the lower 80s. Dew
point readings have been rising through the day as well, from
the low to mid 60s early this morning to the upper 60s by early
this afternoon.
Winds have been fairly steady today out of the west-southwest.
The average speed for the day so far is around 13mph. The peak
gust so far for the day is 32mph, which occurred after the 1pm
observation.
Visibility has been limited today thanks to haziness. The view
has decreased a bit through the day, in part due to the smoke.
It went from 35 miles early this morning to around 30 miles by
early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 84F, which is 2 degrees
above the normal high of 82F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 67F, which is 3 degrees above the normal low of 64F.
