COOLER TODAY WITH BUILDING CLOUDS AND SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON….
Surface low pressure associated with the cold front that pushed
through late yesterday has pushed well to the east of the region
today. Meanwhile a weakening area of high pressure centered over
the U.P. of Michigan is sliding southeastward across the Great
Lakes region. Aloft, a trough is sitting over eastern Canada with
a short wave rotating around it pushing southward across New
England today. Upper level temperatures are cooling as the day
progresses, thus increasing instability across the area.
Skies started the day mainly clear early this morning, but clouds
started to pop up by mid morning. They have become more numerous
early this afternoon with the above mentioned instability. Some
scattered showers have also developed over the region.
Temperatures are cooler today than they have been the last couple
of days. Readings have pushed into the upper 60s to low 70s by
early this afternoon. Dew point values have been holding in the
mid 50s throughout the day, so overall it feels more comfortable
than yesterday.
Winds have been steady for the most part today, starting the day
out of the north-northwest, but have veered to an onshore flow by
early this afternoon. The average speed for the day so far is
around 9mph. The peak gust for the day so far occurred twice,
first around midnight, and again just after 12:30pm this
afternoon with a value of 22mph.
Visibility has been excellent all day with a view of around
60-70 miles, however it has become locally lower where rain
showers have developed.
The maximum temperature so far today is 71F degrees, which is
a degree above the normal high of 70F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 56F degrees, which is 4 degrees above the
normal low of 52F.
