INCREASING CLOUDS THROUGH THE MORNING WITH RAIN DEVELOPING
BEFORE NOON….
Clouds have been the theme today with increasing and thickening
cloud cover through the morning. Rain started fall just after
11:15am and has been falling lightly since. Only a trace has
been measured so far.
We’ve had a much different temperature profile here on the
summit than most surrounding areas. Due to being above an
inversion, our overnight temperatures generally held in the
upper 30s while many surrounding stations were in the mid
to upper 20s. Also, while most places never got above the
mid to upper 30s this morning, we rose to 46F this morning
before finally dropping back to the mid 30s early this
afternoon. As a matter of fact, our low temperature for the
day so far is occurring this afternoon. Dew point values have
been holding in the low-mid 30s throughout the day so far.
The wind started the day on the light side out of a westerly
direction. It then transitioned to a northeast flow and has
been increasing since about the mid morning hours. By early
this afternoon it has become quite gusty with values
approaching 30mph. The average speed for the day so far is
around 9mph, but it has been closer to 13mph the last hour.
The peak gust so far for the day is 29mph, which occurred
just before 1:45pm this afternoon.
Visibility was excellent this morning, but quickly
deteriorated with the onset of the rain. The view was around
70 miles during the morning, dropping to around 15 miles by
the 1pm observation. Now it’s under 2 miles as of this writing.
The maximum temperature so far today is 46F degrees, which is
5 degrees above the normal high of 41F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 37F degrees, which is 7 degrees above the
normal low of 24F.
