A TOUCH OF SNOW OVERNIGHT; A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUN WITH GUSTY WINDS
TODAY….
As a clipper system passed to the north of the region overnight,
a band of snow and rain moved through the region. Here at Blue
Hill it all fell as snow and was enough to accumulate to 0.1″ just
after midnight. The snow quickly moved out leading us into a day
featuring a mix of clouds and sun. The big story for today is the
wind, which ramped up during the morning and has featured gusts
over 40mph into early this afternoon.
Temperatures are actually seasonal for the time of year, but with
the wind and low dew point values, it doesn’t feel like it.
Readings have reached the mid 40s, but it feels more like 30-35F
with the wind. Dew point values have been lowering from the mid
20s this morning to the low 20s by the 1pm observation.
The wind was steady overnight into very early this morning, but
ramped up during the morning hours as mentioned. The direction
gradually shifted from the south during the wee hours of this
morning to the west-northwest by early this afternoon. The average
speed for the day so far is around 18mph. The peak gust for the
day so far is 46mph, which occurred just before 11:30am this
morning.
Visibility has been increasing as the day has progressed, from
around 40 miles early this morning to 70 miles by early this
afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 47F degrees, which is
4 degrees above the normal high of 43F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 32F degrees, which is 6 degrees above the
normal low of 26F.
