HEAT-WAVE CONTINUES, BUT NOT QUITE AS HOT AND HUMID TODAY….
Today marks the 4th, and what should be the last day of this
heat-wave. Today is featuring a bit more cloud cover than the
past couple of days, which is an indicator that temperatures
aloft are cooling. This also means the potential for
thunderstorms are increasing as well. With a cold front
approaching the region later today and this evening, there
chance is there and it would be quite welcomed.
Yesterday, July 3, we set a new record high minimum temperature
for the date with a low temperature of 77F. This broke the old
record of 76F set back in 2002. This reading was one of the warmest
daily minimum temperatures ever recorded in July.
BHO Highest July Daily Minimum Temperatures, deg F (1885-2026):
1) 79 on 22 July 1926
2) 78 on 31 July 1917
78 on 5 July 1919
4) 77 on 6 July 2010
77 on 3 July 2026
The current heat-wave (three days or longer of 90F or higher)
is the 90th on the Blue Hill records since 1885 for any month,
and it is the 48th heat-wave in the month of July.
The overnight minimum temperature was a balmy 75F, while not
a record for today, it’s still more than 10 degrees above what
should be expected for a low. Readings have quickly risen again
today into the low 90s. While not as hot as the last two days,
it’s still quite toasty out there. The dew point has been holding
in the low 70s, which when combined with the temperature is
producing a heat index near 100F degrees this afternoon.
The wind has been steady again today, mainly out of a westerly
direction. The average speed for the day so far is around 10mph.
The peak gust so far for the day is 28mph, which occurred at
12:45pm this afternoon.
Visibility has once again been limited today due to haziness.
The view has been holding between 30-40 miles throughout the day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 92F, which is 11 degrees
above the normal high of 81F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 75F, which is 12 degrees above the normal low of 63F.
