COLD AIR SETTLES IN AS SNOW CONTINUES ACROSS THE REGION….
Today has been all about the snow. The measurements from 1pm
yesterday to 7am measured at 0.7″ with 0.07″ of liquid
equivalent, which made for a typical 10:1 ratio. The snow that
was recorded from 7am this morning to 1pm this afternoon was a
total of 1.7″ with a 0.11″ liquid equivalent. This is a 15:1 ratio
which is yielding a very fluffy snow. Heavier bands of snow
were observed after the 1pm reading, and there will be much
more to measure and add to today’s storm total. Stay tuned!
And for those keeping score at home, we are +5.8″ above for
the season before today’s snowfall.
Temperatures have remained rather steady, in the mid to lower
20’s, with a slight decrease in temperature after 1pm. Dew points
have remained in the lower 20’s and have also begun to decrease
with the fall of temperature.
The wind was out of the southeast for the earlier part of the day,
but as the polar front approached, the wind shifted to a more
northerly flow, as well as an increased intensity. The average
speed so far today is about 8mph, though it’s been around 10mph
over the past couple of hours. The peak gust so far is 26mph,
which occurred at 1:27pm.
Visibility has decreased as the day has progressed, due to the
snow. We started at around 5 miles and finished the observation
period at 1 mile. After the observation period, visibility was
seen at less than 1/8 of a mile at times while the heaviest of
the snow was moving through.
The maximum temperature so far today is 26F degrees, which is
9 degrees below the normal high of 36F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 21F degrees, which is 3 degrees above the
normal low of 18F.
