MAINLY CLOUDY TODAY WITH SEASONABLE TEMPERATURES….
All in all, it’s not a terrible day despite the deck of clouds.
With seasonable temperatures and tolerable wind, it’s a decent
enough day for outdoor winter activities. To put it into more
perspective, 11 years ago today a major snowstorm was beginning.
This storm would end up bringing 21.6″ of snow over 2 days
(14-15th) along with a 53mph peak wind gust, and a very
impressive snow depth of 46″, which is the record highest depth
here one Blue Hill since records began in 1885. So the old
adage that it can always be worse certainly applies today!
As mentioned, temperatures have been seasonable for this time
of year with readings reaching the mid 30s by early this
afternoon. Dew point values have been gradually rising from the
mid teens to the low 20s, so the air mass remains on the dry
side.
The wind has been fairly steady, but not overly strong today so
far. A generally westerly flow has been averaging at around 10mph
for the day so far. The peak gust for today so far is 22mph,
which occurred right at 1pm.
Visibility has been somewhat limited with the view hanging
between 30-50 miles through the day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 35F degrees, which is
2 degrees below the normal high of 37F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 23F degrees, which is 4 degrees above the
normal low of 19F.
