EARLY FOG BURNS OFF TO SUNNY SKIES THIS MORNING; CLOUDS REBUILD BY
EARLY AFTERNOON….
We started the day once again with a lot of low clouds and fog.
These very quickly burned off however with skies becoming mainly
clear even before the 7am observation. With plenty of sunshine
warming the surface and plenty of chilly air aloft associated with
a large upper level low centered over Ontario and Quebec, clouds
quickly re-built over the region by early this afternoon with a
mix of low, mid, and high level clouds. With the atmosphere being
unstable, some tower cumulus were observed well to the north-
northwest and north at the 1pm observation. Radar indicated some
showers that developed over southwest New Hampshire under those
billowing cloud formations.
Temperatures quickly warmed through the morning reaching the low
80s by early this afternoon. Now that we’re into late August, this
is actually above normal for the date! As of yesterday, the normal
high temperatures have slipped below 80F now! Fall is quickly
approaching! The dew point started the day in the mid 60s, so it
was rather humid this morning. However, as mixing from aloft take
place this afternoon, the air has dried out considerably with
readings dropping into the mid to upper 50s!
Winds were steady through the morning between 5-10mph, but pretty
suddenly picked up around 11am this morning and became quite gusty.
A southwesterly wind has averaged around 11mph for the day
so far. Gusts have been frequently exceeding 25mph during the
afternoon so far. The peak gust for the day so far is 31mph, which
occurred just after 11am this morning.
Once the fog burned off, the visibility improved to around 50 miles
early this morning. However it’s been decreasing since as haziness
increases. The view was down to around 30 miles by the 1pm obs.
The maximum temperature so far today is 82F, which is 3 degrees
above the normal high of 79F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 62F, which is equal to the normal low.
