ANOTHER MUGGY DAY TO START THE LAST WEEKEND IN AUGUST….
Today has felt very summer-like with tropical level dew points.
This morning we started in the clouds, with lots of fog in the
region. As the fog lifted, it was replaced with hazy conditions
as the temperatures climbed and the wind decreased. Mid morning
skies were the most clear before increasing low level clouds were
observed by the final observation at 1pm EST.
Temperatures started off warm with an overnight low of 69F, which is
8 degrees above normal. Temperatures began to rise a bit quickly
while the sun was out, but started to retreat with additional cloud
cover. So far though, temperatures have hit the low 80’s which is just
slightly above average for this time of year. It feels much warmer
than average though, and that is because the dew points have been in
the low 70’s which is considered muggy and oppressive for our region.
Winds have been the strongest just after midnight when we were still
under the gusty southerly flow. Since mid morning, winds have shifted
to the west-southwest and have decreased quite a bit. The average so
far for the day is around 7mph. The peak gust so far for the day is
21mph, which occurred just before 1am this morning.
Visibility was low this morning with about 15 miles of view due to
lingering fog in the vicinity. The visibility did improve slightly,
but with higher dew points and hazy conditions, we have only been
able to see around 35 miles so far today.
The maximum temperature so far today is 82F, which is 3 degrees
above the normal high of 79F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 69F, which is 8 degrees above the normal low of 61F.
