NOR’EASTER IS UNDERWAY WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS….
The much anticipated coastal storm now located east-southeast of
the Delaware coast continues to gradually deepen as it moves
very slowly northward. Periods of rain and wind have been the
theme all day as bands of moisture propagate northward from the
center of the storm. Rainfall amounts have become rather robust
through this morning and into early this afternoon. 0.39″ of rain
was measured through 7am this morning, but an additional 0.90″
has been measured through 1pm this afternoon, bringing the storm
total to 1.29″ so far.
As one would expect, the temperature has been fairly steady
holding in the mid 50s. With the cloud cover, rainfall, and stiff
northeast wind, it feels quite raw and chilly out there. With the
air being saturated, the dew point is also stuck in the mid 50s.
Winds are quite gusty today, as they have been now for the past
few days. A mainly northeast flow has been averaging at around a
solid 20mph for the day so far. Gusts are frequently exceeding
40mph with a peak gust for the day so far of 55mph, which
occurred around 3:40am this morning. The record peak gust for
today’s date is 54e MPH S in 1977, so we have already exceeded
that value and thus have a new record for today. However since
the 55mph may not be the final value for today, we will hold off
on a special report until tomorrow.
Visibility has of course been limited today by rain and fog. The
view (or lack thereof) has generally been around 2 miles or less
throughout the day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 58F, which is 11 degrees
below the normal high of 69F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 52F, which is equal to the normal low.
