RECORD BREAKING EARLY SEASON NOR’EASTER GRIPS US FOR ANOTHER
DAY BRINGING HEAVY RAIN AND HIGH WIND….
As the center of the storm has made landfall over New Jersey,
wind and rain continue to dump over our area today. We have
completely smashed our daily precipitation amount for today, but
will have to wait to see what the total will be tomorrow. So far
though, we are up to 4.42″ of rain today, and that brings the
storm total to an impressive 7.82″. The wind record for yesterday
was also broken, at 58mph, but today’s was never close as today
is the anniversary of Hurricane Gloria in 1985 which brought a
gust of 100mph.
It has been a soggy, at times blinding heavy rain, and wind
whipping weather today. The good news is that the severe part of
the storm is behind us now, but we will still have some unsettled
weather through tonight and tomorrow.
Temperatures have remained constant, only fluctuating between
56F-58F throughout the day. Dew points have remained equal to the
temperature since the air has been fully saturated.
A strong northeast flow has continued today, although not as high
as yesterday, it’s still in the damaging winds category. Winds have
been averaging 20mph for the day so far. Yesterday’s average was
around 24mph. Gusts are frequently exceeding 35-40mph, but have
slightly decreased since this morning. The peak gust for the day
so far of 51mph occurred around 1:30am this morning.
Visibility has been abysmal, with only 1/4-1/2 mile tops. Heavy
rain and foggy conditions have put the summit in the clouds all
day today.
The maximum temperature so far today is 58F, which is 10 degrees
below the normal high of 68F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 56F, which is 5 degrees above the normal low of 51F.
