MAINLY CLOUDY TODAY WITH SCATTERED LIGHT SHOWERS AROUND….
A weak frontal system is stalled over the region as an area of low
pressure develops off the Mid Atlantic coast. Thanks to the
continued high latitude blocking across the North Atlantic, these
systems are not moving very quickly. As such we are stuck with
the clouds and showers today and likely into tonight.
So far the showers have been on the light side with only 0.02″
of water being measured so far. So it’s not a washout by any
stretch, but it’s been enough to be a bit of a nuisance for
outdoor activities.
Temperatures are on the cooler side for the start of May with
readings reaching the mid to upper 50s earlier today. They have
since settled back to around 50F due to the rain. Normal highs
should now be in the low to mid 60s. Dew point values have for
the most part been holding in the mid 40s, but did dip into the
mid to upper 30s for a time late this morning.
Winds were rather light through the morning, but started to pick
up a bit as we approached noon-time. It’s was rather variable in
direction, but has settled now more out of the southwest and
south-southwest early this afternoon. The average speed for the
day so far is around 9pmh. The peak gust so far is 28mph, which
occurred just before 11am this morning.
Visibility has been variable. It’s generally been 40-50 miles,
but dips lower at times in and around rain showers as one would
expect.
The maximum temperature so far today is 58F degrees, which is 5
degrees below the normal high of 63F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 45F degrees, which is 1 degree above the normal
temperature of 44F.
