COLD, RAW, AND RAINY TODAY WITH A BRISK ONSHORE WIND….
Yesterday’s near record warmth abruptly came to an end as a
backdoor cold front crossed the summit of Blue Hill at 1:44pm
yesterday. The temperature dropped from 70F just before the
front crossed to 60F by 2pm, a 10 degree drop in 15 minutes!
It was down to 45F by 3pm. Rain also developed soon after the
front moved through and continued off and on right through
this morning, so the first half of today was pretty miserable.
We measured 0.51″ of rain at 7am this morning, with an
additional 0.08″ falling since that time.
The rain finally tapered off late this morning with cloudy
skies remaining. It’s still quite chilly however with that
brisk east-northeast wind off the chilly ocean.
Temperatures have been holding in the mid 30s all day after
a high at midnight of 38F, so it’s significantly below normal
for the date. Dew points are also holding in the mid 30s, so
the air is quite saturated, adding to the miserable feeling of
the day. Today is definitely a perfect one for a hot beverage
or soup.
Winds have been fairly steady out of the east-northeast today,
averaging at around 13mph for the day so far. Gusts have been
frequently exceeding 20mph all day, with a peak gust occurring
just before 5am this morning with a speed of 32mph.
The visibility has been limited this morning due to the rain
and fog with the view generally between 6-12 miles, but was
briefly dropped below 1 mile at times. It has improved to around
30 miles early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 38F degrees, which is
12 degrees below the normal high of 50F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 35F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the
normal low of 33F.
