FOGGY START GIVES WAY TO SPRING LIKE CONDITIONS….
Today has gone from gray to great in only a matter of a
couple of hours! This morning, we were in the clouds and
under dense fog only giving us a 1/8 mile visibility. To
add salt to the wound, we were dealing with persistent
drizzle and just a raw, damp start to the day. Once the
rain finally moved out, fog lifted, the clouds parted,
and the brilliant sunshine warmed and dried the surface.
We went from a winter morning to a spring afternoon.
It has rained for much of the month so far, though there was
a small break yesterday during the late morning. The rainy
conditions continued through today, though light, until around
11am standard time. Despite all of the rain, we have received
just 0.65″ total through 1pm today. We are marginally above
average for the month but still holding onto a 2 inch deficit
seasonally.
Temperatures were below normal again at the start of the day
and through noontime. Once the conditions improved, temperatures
recovered nicely, and as of 1pm we are above average in both
minimum and maximum temperatures. Temperatures seem to be on
the rise as this discussion is being written, though we are
far from hitting any records today. (76F set in 1892). Dew points
have remained high, due to the rainy conditions earlier and the
extra moisture that is still lingering in the air.
Winds have been light today, with a slight increase during the
mid morning hours. Winds have varied from the south-southeast
during the first part of the day, to a more southwesterly flow
by the early afternoon. The average speed for the day so far is
around 8mph. The peak gust so far for the day occurred just before
9:30am this morning with a speed of 21mph.
As noted earlier, the visibility was heavily impacted by dense
fog for much of the morning. Visibility was only about 1/8 of a
mile during this time. Once the drizzle moved out and the fog lifted,
the visibility improved to around 40 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 53F degrees, which is
2 degrees above the normal high of 51F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 35F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the
normal low of 33F.
