COLD START, BUT TURNING SEASONABLE UNDER MAINLY SUNNY SKIES….
Today has been a very nice day overall with plenty of sunshine after
some mid level clouds passed through early this morning. An area of
high pressure crested to our south early this morning, but has since
pushed eastward. The day did start on the cold side thanks to the
high pulling cold air down from Canada. With the axis of the high
now to the east of our longitude, the flow has backed from west-
northwest to southwest, allowing for milder air to start pushing
into the region.
As noted, temperatures started the day on the cold side with lows
in the mid 20s. We have warmed to near seasonable levels by early
this afternoon as readings have reached the mid to upper 40s. Dew
points however remain pretty low for this time of year with readings
in the mid to upper teens. This is causing relative humidity values
to drop to near 30% early this afternoon, leading to an elevated
fire risk across the area.
Winds started off fairly steady around 10mph through the morning,
but have been increasing over the last hour or two. Gusts have
been more frequently exceeding 20mph since around 11am. The peak
gust for the day so far is 29mph, which occurred just before
12:45pm this afternoon.
The visibility has been decent today, starting at around 50 miles
early this morning, then rising a bit to around 70 miles by early
this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 48F degrees, which is
equal to the normal high of 48F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 24F degrees, which is 7 degrees below the normal low
of 31F.
