FRONTAL SYSTEMS BRING RAIN OVERNIGHT AND TODAY TO THE HILL….
A warm front pushed through overnight bringing with it periods
of rain, some of which was briefly heavy at times. There were
even reports of thunder over parts of southeast Massachusetts
during the wee hours of the morning, but no thunder was observed
here at Blue Hill. There was a lull in the rainfall between
4am and 8am, but then a cold front passed through with more
rain showers. 0.28″ of rain was measured at 7am, with another
0.01″ falling between 9-10am.
Temperatures actually warmed overnight, peaking in the upper
50s around midnight, then held in the mid 50s into early this
morning. Once the cold front passed through, readings began
falling into the low 40s. This trend will continue with readings
into the 30s by later this afternoon and evening.
The wind was gusty overnight out of the south and south-
southwest. Speeds backed off a bit for a time early this morning
before picking up again out of the northwest following the cold
frontal passage. The average speed for the day so far is around
16mph. The peak gust for the day is 34mph, which occurred just
after 10am this morning.
Visibility was very limited early this morning, down to zero
at the 7am observation. It improved significantly once the front
passed with the view reaching 70 miles by early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 57F degrees, which is
14 degrees above the normal high of 43F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 40F degrees, which is 14 degrees above the
normal low of 26F.
