BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
MONDAY, MARCH 9, 2026
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST)
SUNRISE: 0606E
SUNSET: 1744E
SPRINGLIKE CONDITIONS CONTINUE WITH LIGHT SOUTHERLY FLOW….
Sunshine and unseasonable warmth blanketed the area today, with
wet streets and muddy ground providing clear evidence of the
substantial loss of snow depth we’re experiencing. Snow depth at
the summit measured 11 inches yesterday at 1pm, and just over
24 hours later it has sharply dropped to a little over 7 inches.
It has been an absolutely beautiful day today. We started with
some patchy fog in the early morning but quickly lifted and has
featured plenty of sunshine and bright blue skies. Some scattered
cirrus clouds have been observed in the area, but it is not
impacting the sunshine or the views, which have been exceptional
today.
Temperatures have been extremely mild, on both minimum and
the maximum fronts. Our overnight low so far is 45F, which would
beat the high minimum record set in 1921 at 42F if temperatures
tonight don’t drop below that. Our high so far is 64F, which is
22 degrees warmer than average. The high record for the day is
75F, which was set in 2016. Dew points were in the low 40’s
throughout the morning but started to drop to the mid 30’s by the
early afternoon hours.
The wind was steady out of the west-southwest during the overnight
hours. Flow has since shifted to a more south to south-southwest
since mid morning. Winds speeds initially went light with the
direction change, but have started to pick up again in intensity
during the early afternoon. The average speed so far for the day
is around 11mph. The peak gust for the day so far is 26mph and
occurred early this afternoon at 12:20pm.
Visibility held steady around 60 miles for much of the earlier
portion of the day. Once the inversion layer lifted and the
dew points dropped some, there was an improvement in the overall
visibility, to around 80 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 65F degrees, which is
23 degrees above the normal high of 42F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 45F degrees, which is 20 degrees above the
normal low of 25F.
