MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND COMFORTABLE CONDITIONS ATOP GREAT
BLUE HILL TODAY!….
Today has been a top ten day on the summit, with mostly clear
skies and plenty of bright sunshine. A few altocumulus and
cirrus clouds were seen in the distance, and by the afternoon
few cumulus were seen due to daytime surface heating. What an
incredible way to close out meteorological summer today!
Temperatures have continued to be slightly below normal, and
with dew points in the low 50s, the dry air has made for another
comfortable day for any outdoor activity or frolicking. Overnight
temperatures got down to around 53F and had rebounded quite
quickly after sunrise.
The wind has been on the light side today, only averaging around
8mph. Wind flow started out of the north-northwest today and by
the afternoon, winds have switched to a more northeasterly flow.
The peak gust for the day so far is 18mph, which occurred just
after 8am this morning.
Visibility has been excellent today thanks to the nice dry air.
The view has been generally 70-80 miles throughout the day. There
was a smoke layer aloft this morning, but it did not impact the
visibility overall. By midmorning there were nothing but clear,
crisp blue skies.
The maximum temperature so far today is 75F degrees, which is
3 degrees below the normal high of 78F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 53 degrees, which is 7 degrees below the normal
low of 60F.
