A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS; COOL WITH A BRISK WEST-NORTHWEST WIND….
The storm system that slowly passed through the region from late
Wednesday evening into early yesterday evening brought with it very
welcomed and much needed rainfall. 2.53″ was the storm total for the
event, which is 97% of the total rainfall for the month to date!
Despite the good soaking of the past few days, we are still running
below normal for both the month and year, so we could definitely use
some more precipitation.
Today is featuring a mix of sun and clouds with drier air moving into
the area.
Temperatures bottomed out in the upper 30s overnight, but has been slow
to rise today thanks to strong cold air advection taking place. A
combination of downsloping and sunshine is trying to fight off the
colder air, and thus we’re seeing only a slow rise in readings today,
only reaching the mid to upper 40s by early this afternoon. The dew
point has been gradually slipping from the upper 20s into the mid 20s,
so there is definitely a chilly feel to the air.
Winds started ramping up yesterday afternoon and remained busy through
the night. They have become even busier today. The cold air advection
is creating very gusty conditions, especially once the sun started
heating the atmosphere and increased mixing started to take place.
The average speed for the day so far is around 19mph with frequent
gusts exceeding 30mph. The peak gust for the day so far is 42mph, which
occurred at 10:17am and 11:47am this morning.
Visibility has been excellent today, starting the day at around 60
miles. It improved to around 80 miles by mid morning and continues to
be at around that value into early this afternoon.
The maximum temperature for today is 47F degrees, which is equal to
the normal high of 47F. The minimum temperature since midnight is
38F degrees, which is 7 degrees above the normal low of 31F.
