DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2013
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
UNSEASONABLY COLD EARLY SEASON ARCTIC AIR MASS
BRINGS NEAR RECORD COLD MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE SUNDAY
WEST-NORTHWEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS GUST OVER 50 MPH
DEW POINT TEMPERATURES DROP TO NEGATIVE SINGLE NUMBERS
An unusually strong Arctic high pressure system which was
centered along the North Dakota-Canada border early Saturday morning
had a central pressure of 1050 millibars or 31.00 inches.
Low temperatures dropped to 22 below zero in North Dakota certainly
unusually cold even for that location this early in the season.
The Arctic cold front moved through New England Saturday night.
Here at the Observatory temperatures fell to 27 degrees by
midnight Saturday which actually became the high for Sunday,
yesterday, November 24, when the record low maximum was just
one degree below that reading at 26 degrees November 24, 1936.
Actually the coldest maximum temperature this early in the
season is 21 on November 23, 1888. Yesterday’s daytime afternoon
maximum was 26 degrees.
Dew points continued in single numbers below zero today, most
unusual for November. Relative humidity dropped to 20 to 25%.
