UNSEASONABLE WARMTH REACHES RECORD LEVELS TODAY- 73F BY 1:00 PM
A big warm up is underway here in southern New England as
temperatures reached into the mid 50s yesterday and were
already in the 50s once again by 9:00 AM EST this morning.
Fog rolled in over night blanketing the summit with above
normal temperatures and poor visibility. Visibility was only
1/4 of a mile by the 7:00 AM EST observation with an overnight
low of 38F. Fog soon cleared not long after the morning observation
revealing blue skies overhead.
By today’s 1:00 PM EST observation the mercury had climbed to
a maximum of 73F so far, already exceeding today’s daily record
maximum temperature of 71F set back in 2000. Hazy conditions
were limiting visibility to 30 miles in all directions even with
mostly clear skies overhead.
This afternoon’s reading of 73F has not only broken today’s daily
record, but also represents the warmest temperature reading so
early in the meteorological Spring season.
