BEAUTIFUL FALL DAY WITH CRISP BLUE SKIES AND LIGHTER WIND TODAY….
Skies have remained mostly clear with the exception of a few cirrus
to points north of the Observatory today. Plenty of bright sunshine
and clear blue skies to round out today being an absolute beautiful
fall day. Temperatures have also remained seasonable, though today
has been a little warmer than yesterday. All in all though, it’s
been a perfect fall week so far.
Temperatures have been similar to yesterday, though we were a bit
quicker to warm up after the wind slowed and shifted. Dew points
have also remained low, in the mid to upper 30s, which is indicative
of the dry air mass over the region.
Winds were steady but decreasing out of the west-northwest during
the overnight hours before going calm for a couple of periods. After
that, the wind shifted more westerly before settling on a dominant
southwest flow for the late morning and early afternoon hours. Since
then, wind has been light but starting to pick up again. The average
speed for the day so far is around 8mph. The peak gust so far for
the day is 20mph, which occurred around 12:30pm this afternoon.
Visibility has been holding steady at 80 miles today. While not a
perfect visibility like yesterday, it is still quite the view, and
picturesque with the fall colors and deep blue sky.
The maximum temperature so far today is 65F, which is 1 degree
above the normal high of 64F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 40F, which is 7 degrees below the normal low of 47F.
