ABUNDANT SUNSHINE WITH WARMING TEMPERATURES AND LIGHT WIND….
An area of high pressure centered over the Great Lakes region
is continuing to build eastward toward our region. Meanwhile
ridging is also building in aloft as the pesky trough over
Atlantic Canada slowly loses its grip on New England. As a
result, a much warmer summer-like pattern is emerging over the
area.
With the above mentioned high pressure building in, today has
been a stellar day with plenty of sun and much warmer
temperatures. Only a few mid and high level clouds passed by
during the morning, but these have dissipated as the upper
ridge brings drier air in aloft.
Temperatures have warmed up considerably today as the warmer
air mass advects into the region. Readings have pushed into the
low 80s by early this afternoon. With dew point values in the
upper 40s, it still feels very comfortable out there. Definitely
a good day to be outdoors.
Winds have been on the light side today for the most part. It
does attempt to pick up a bit at times, mainly due to some
mixing from aloft, but overall it’s been nothing to write home
about. The direction has been quite variable as well. The
average speed for the day so far is only around 7mph. The peak
gust so far for the day is 18mph, which occurred just before
noon-time.
Visibility was excellent to start the day with a view of around
70 miles, but it has decreased quite a bit as the day has
progressed due to the pollen being released. Right now it’s
mainly pine pollen, which tends to have larger sized grains
than other types of pollen. The view by late this morning
and early this afternoon is only around 35-40 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 81F degrees, which is
10 degrees above the normal high of 71F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 56F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the
normal low of 54F.
