COOLER WITH PERIODS OF RAIN TODAY AS WE START SEPTEMBER….
As our region rides the boundary between a rather large upper
level ridge over the eastern 2/3rds of the country and a broad
upper trough to our north through northeast, waves of
disturbances will push through over the next couple of days.
The first of which is doing so today bringing with it areas of
rain showers, even a thunderstorm well to our west-southwest
over northeast Connecticut earlier today.
The rain has mainly been on the light side here on the Hill
with only 0.15″ of rain being measured through 1pm. Either way
we have been stuck under cloudy skies all day except for a
very brief period where the sun broke through the clouds during
the mid morning hours.
Thanks to the clouds and rain, temperatures have been held in
the 60s today, with the high only reaching 69F so far. This is
close to 10 degrees below the expected high for today’s date.
As one would expect, the air has been close to saturated, so
the dew point has also been stuck in the 60s all day.
Winds have been rather light today, and variable in direction.
The average speed for the day so far is only around 6mph. The
peak gust is only 15mph, which occurred just after noon.
Visibility has been variable through the day as rain showers
move in and out. It’s been as high as 30 miles early this
morning, and as low as around 6 miles during times of “heavier”
showers.
The maximum temperature so far today is 69F, which is 8 degrees
below the normal high of 78F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 63F, which is 3 degrees above the normal low of 60F.
