CLOUDY CONDITIONS, COOLER AND KIND OF GLOOMY TODAY….
There was the slightest bit of sun early this morning before
thick cloud cover rolled through. The clouds are the remnants of
hurricane Isaias and have been in the form of a thick altostratus
layer over the region. Some stratus fractus could be seen off
the coast during the mid morning hours but so far the summit and
surrounding areas have remained dry for now.
Temperatures have struggled to rise today, thanks in part to the
overcast skies. We managed to dip just below 50F during the early
morning hours and have only increased to 57F as of the last daily
observation. Dew points have hovered in the low to mid 40s for
much of today which is slightly higher than yesterday.
Winds have been on the lighter side today, with a dominant
south-south easterly flow. The average speed for the day so far
is 9mph. The peak gust for the day so far is 18mph, which occurred
just before 12:30pm this afternoon.
Visibility has ranged between 40-60 miles today. The views were
the best in the mid morning and have started to decrease more than
likely due to the incoming rain.
The maximum temperature so far today is 57F, which is 6 degrees
below the normal high of 63F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 48F, which is 2 degrees above the normal low of 46F.
