A DAMP COOL DAY WITH PERIODS OF LIGHT RAIN AND A FRESHENING ONSHORE
BREEZE….
High pressure is gradually pushing eastward into the Atlantic
with a warm front pushing into the region from the west. The
overrunning of the warmer air aloft is helping to generate the
clouds and rain today. So far rainfall has amounted to 0.14″,
with 0.02″ falling prior to 7am, and the remainder since 7am.
The onshore flow is helping to keep temperatures on the cool side
with readings only rising to the low 50s early this afternoon from
the upper 40s early this morning. As one would expect the air is
saturated today, thus the dew point is running the same as the air
temperature.
Winds were light overnight into early this morning, but have been
on the increase as the high pressure area moves away and warm front
approaches, thus tightening the pressure gradient a bit. The average
speed so far for the day is around 9mph, mainly out of the east and
southeast. The peak gust so far is 28mph, which occurred around
11:10am.
Visibility has decreased from the early morning value of around 50
miles, to 10 miles or less since the rain moved in.
The maximum temperature so far today is 52F degrees, which is 17
degrees below the normal high of 69F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 48F degrees, which is 3 degrees below the normal low
of 51F.
