OVERCAST SKIES WITH DENSE FOG, DRIZZLE, AND PERIODS OF SHOWERS….
It’s been another dreary day so far with the summit in the
clouds leading to very low visibility. Drizzle was fairly
continuous from last evening into the mid morning hours of
this morning. Since then intermittent rain showers have been
occurring. All of this simply translates into another
miserable early spring day here in eastern Massachusetts.
Temperatures are gradually rising as the return flow ahead
of a cold front tries to pull warmer air up from the Mid
Atlantic region. This warm air advection is what’s resulting
in all the clouds and fog today. Readings were in the mid 30s
during the wee hours, then began to slowing rise, reaching
near 50F by late this morning, and into the mid 50s by early
this afternoon. The dew point has been rising in tandem, thus
keeping the air saturated.
Winds have gradually veered from the east and southeast to the
south-southwest and southwest, and then to the west. Speeds
were steady overnight, then dropped off for a time early this
morning, before increasing again during the mid to late morning
period. It has since dropped off again early this afternoon.
The average speed for the day so far is around 9mph. It was a
bit gusty for a time during the mid to late morning period as
well. The peak gust so far for the day occurred just before
10am this morning with a speed of 24mph.
Visibility has been quite limited with the dense fog. The view
has been holding at around 1/8th of a mile all day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 52F degrees, which is
equal to the normal high of 52F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 36F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the normal
low of 34F.
