Record Snowfall at Blue Hill on October 30th

The remnants of Hurricane Zeta, another developing coastal storm behind it, and a very cold air mass for October have combined to provide a period of heavy rain on Thursday, October 29th, into the following night, which changed to snow early Friday morning. A total of 6.5 inches of snow was measured on the summit of Great Blue Hill on Friday, October 30th, which was a new record for the date, surpassing 2.0 inches in 2011. This amount was also the second largest snowfall ever observed in October. Liquid equivalent precipitation totaled 2.20 inches over the 29th-30th. During the snow on Friday, the temperature dropped into the upper 20’s on the summit, and colder temperatures are expected Friday night.
