Observatory Salon
The Observatory Salon: Big Ideas, Free and Online
Our free monthly virtual series on weather, climate, and the Earth.
Since launching in May, the Observatory Salon has become one of our favorite ways to connect with our community. Each month, a featured speaker joins us online for an accessible talk on atmospheric science, climate, or the Earth, followed by live questions from the audience. Every Salon is free and open to all.
September: Seismic Monitoring at Blue Hill
Dr. Alan Kafka, geophysicist and retired Boston College professor.
In September, geophysicist Dr. Alan Kafka explored the Observatory’s little-known history of seismic monitoring and the mystery of earthquakes in the eastern United States, a region far from any plate boundary that still feels the ground shake. Read about the talk.
Catch up anytime
Earlier Salons included a look back at last winter’s forecast, “The Winter Forecast Revisited: What Was Right, and Wrong.” Sessions are recorded and shared on our YouTube channel, so you can watch whenever you like.
