New Speaker Series · Free Virtual Event

Introducing the
Observatory Salon.

A new monthly virtual speaker series from Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center — free, open to all, and starting May 12.

Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center is proud to launch the Observatory Salon — a monthly virtual speaker series bringing together scientists, researchers, and curious minds from around the world for conversations in atmospheric science, climate, and beyond.

Each month, we’ll host a featured speaker for an accessible, engaging talk followed by live Q&A. All events are free and open to everyone — no background in science required. Just bring your curiosity.

Inaugural Event

Observatory Salon inaugural event poster — Professor Alexandria Johnson, What Clouds Know. Tuesday May 12, 2026, 6:00 PM EDT. Free virtual event on Zoom.

About the Talk

“What Clouds Know”

How clouds form — on Earth, across the solar system, and beyond

Professor Alexandria Johnson, Earth, Atmospheric & Planetary Sciences, Purdue University.

Featuring

Professor Alexandria Johnson

Earth, Atmospheric & Planetary Sciences · Purdue University

Professor Johnson studies cloud microphysics — the when, where, and how of cloud formation. Have you ever wondered how clouds form? Or what clouds can tell us about our atmosphere? Join atmospheric scientist Dr. Alexandria Johnson on a journey to discover how clouds take shape, from the skies above you to some of the most extreme environments in the solar system, and what they can tell us about climate, weather patterns, and the processes that connect our planet pole to pole.

Plus: a live Cloud-in-a-Bottle experiment, performed live on Zoom.
