New Website
Welcome to bluehill.org
Now Live · bluehill.org
Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center has a new home on the web. Our redesigned website at bluehill.org is built to be faster, clearer, and easier to navigate — whether you are planning a visit, exploring our climate data, or supporting our mission.
The new site brings together our science, education, events, and giving pages under one roof, with a streamlined experience for members and first-time visitors alike. All previous links from bluehillobservatory.org redirect automatically.
Also New: bostonweather.org
We have also launched bostonweather.org — a dedicated resource for Boston-area weather data, forecasts, and climate information powered by Blue Hill Observatory’s 141-year observational record. If you follow the weather in Greater Boston, bookmark it.
Café & Shop
Introducing Café 635
Now Open · Summit Building
What was once our gift shop has been transformed into Café 635 — named for the elevation of Great Blue Hill — a combined café and shop space where visitors can grab a coffee, browse locally inspired goods, and take in the view. It is the kind of place that earns a second visit.
Café 635 is already home to our new Open Mic Night series, held on the last Sunday of each month through September. The space is designed to be as welcoming after a hike as it is before a school program.
Open Mic Night at Café 635
Live music every last Sunday of the month, May through September 2026. Sign-up at 11:00 AM, music from 12:00–2:00 PM. Performers and listeners both welcome. Contact us at info@bluehill.org for details.
Connectivity
Wi-Fi for Members & Guests
Great Blue Hill now has wi-fi. Members and guests visiting the observatory can connect to our network — whether you are a researcher pulling data, a student on a field trip, or simply a visitor who wants to share the view.
For Members
Complimentary Access
All Blue Hill Observatory members receive complimentary wi-fi access throughout the summit building and visitor areas.
For Guests
Available On-Site
Guest wi-fi is available to all visitors during their time on the summit. Ask at the front desk for connection details.
Education Spaces
Scientific Discovery Hall, Reimagined
Our Scientific Discovery Hall has been redesigned from the ground up — reorganized to function seamlessly as both a classroom and an event space. The updated layout gives visiting student groups a more focused, productive learning environment, while remaining fully flexible for lectures, programs, and community gatherings.
+25%
Increase in student education tours at Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center — and our renovated Scientific Discovery Hall is built to meet the demand.
The redesign reflects our commitment to hands-on science education as a core part of the Observatory’s mission. With more student groups than ever making their way to Great Blue Hill, having a classroom space that truly works makes a real difference.
Coming Next Month
Live Summit Cameras
Launching Next Month
New cameras installed across the summit will soon deliver a live feed from Great Blue Hill — available directly on bluehill.org. Whether you want to check the view before a visit, track an approaching storm, or simply see what the sky looks like from 635 feet, the live feed will bring the summit to you.
The summit has been watched and measured for 141 years. Soon, anyone will be able to see it in real time.
The live camera feed is expected to launch next month. Watch bluehill.org and bostonweather.org for the announcement.
