CLOUDS AND A FEW VERY LIGHT SHOWERS DEPART EARLY THIS MORNING,
MAINLY SUNNY SKIES AND BREEZY THEREAFTER….
The system that brought us rain yesterday moved out of the area
by the late afternoon hours, but not before leaving a total of
0.98″ of much needed rainfall. While this was good enough to
erasing the monthly deficit for now, we are still considerably
behind in the annual precipitation department, still over an
8 inch deficit!
A band of very light showers moved through early this morning
associated with a cold front, but this didn’t amount to any more
than a trace. Once that front moved through, skies gradually
cleared leaving us with a very nice, albeit brisk, late morning
and afternoon in its wake.
Temperatures are below seasonal levels despite the abundance of
sunshine since late this morning. Strong cold air advection is
taking place slowing the temperature rise as well as ushering
in much drier air. Temperature readings have recovered from the
low 60s this morning to the low 70s by early this afternoon.
The biggest difference is with dew point values, which started
the day in the mid 60s, but have dropped to around 50F by early
this afternoon. The much lower values are adding a bit of a fall
chill to the air, especially with the gusty wind.
Winds were fairly steady overnight and early this morning, but
have really picked up this morning thanks to the above mentioned
cold air advection taking place. The wind has settled out of the
northwest with an average speed for the day so far of around
13mph. Gusts really started ramping up during the mid morning
period with frequent 25mph+ gusts. The peak gust for the day so
far is 32mph, which occurred just after 12pm.
Visibility improved from around 60 miles early this morning to
around 80 miles by the 10am observation, where it has remained
for the balance of the day so far. The lowering dew points and
the post-rain air mass have really cleared the air out for today.
The maximum temperature so far today is 71F, which is 4 degrees
below the normal high of 74F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 62F, which is 6 degrees above the normal low of 56F.
