GUSTY SOUTH WINDS AND TORRENTIAL AM RAIN BLANKET THE
REGION IN FOG ……..
Heavy rain hit the area early this morning, and so far we have
accumulated 0.88 inches of rain today. Fortunately, there have
been a few times where the rain has either stopped or on the light
side, but this system has already produced quite a bit of
precipitation. We were sitting at a monthly deficit of -0.39 inches
yesterday, and as of 1pm, we are +0.14 for the month. With a lot of
snow melting and this amount of rain in a short period of time,
there are a lot of large pools of standing water on the hill. More
rain seems to be on the docket today, which could possibly break
our daily precipitation record of 1.95 inches that was set back
in 1900! Any broken records will be sent out as a special report
so stay tuned.
Temperatures have trended on the mild side, which is probably a
good thing with all of the precipitation. Overnight, temperatures
were in the upper 30’s and have warmed to the upper 50’s by the
early afternoon. Dew points have remained consistent with the
mild temperatures, as relative humidity has hovered around the
100% mark throughout the day.
The wind has been very active today, though relatively, the wind
was lighter during the overnight hours averaging around 10mph out
of the southeast. By daybreak and through the mid morning, winds
were out of the south-southeast and started to increase. During
the early afternoon, winds have shifted to the south and have
continued to increase in intensity. The average speed for the day
so far is around 16mph. There have been frequent gusts in the
30-40mph range. The peak gust for the day so far is 47mph, which
occurred just before 9am this morning.
The visibility today has been poor, as we have been in the clouds
all day. This morning we were around 1/2 mile and “improved” to
around 5 miles by mid morning. During the last observation we were
down to 1/8 mile as another line of showers were moving through.
The maximum temperature so far today is 58F degrees, which is
14 degrees above the normal high of 44F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 36F degrees, which is 9 degrees above the
normal low of 27F.
