A FEW SHOWERS LAST EVENING WITH A BACKDOOR FRONT, MUCH COOLER AND
MORE COMFORTABLE TODAY….
A backdoor cold front slipped through the area last evening
bringing a few rain showers with it. 0.16″ of rain was measured
here at Blue Hill, however, this was only a proverbial drop in
the bucket compared to the monthly and annual rainfall deficit
we’re currently running.
Today featured plenty of sunshine this morning, but much like
yesterday, clouds have overtaken the sky this afternoon as they
increase ahead of our next system approaching the region.
The air mass behind the front is cooler and less humid with
temperatures only rising to the mid 70s early this afternoon. As
mentioned, the air mass is comfortable as a bit of drier air
filtered down from the north this morning. Dew point values
dropped from the low 60s early this morning to the mid 50s for
the balance of the day so far. By far a very comfortable day
overall for the last day of August!
Winds were steady overnight, but then dropped off quite a bit
by the mid morning hours today. The wind shifted from north
to the east early this morning, but has since gone more into
the south this afternoon. The average for the day so far is
only around 7mph. The peak gust for the say so far occurred
during the wee hours, just after 2am, with a value of just
16mph.
Visibility has once again been pretty decent today. We started
with a view of around 50 miles early this morning, then rising
to around 60 miles for the rest of the day so far.
The maximum temperature so far today is 76F, which is 2 degrees
below the normal high of 78F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 60F, which is equal to the normal low.
