BREEZY NORTH WINDS AND COOLER TEMPERATURES FOLLOW OVERNIGHT RAIN….
Last night we received 0.10 inches of rain, which brings our monthly
total to 4.96 inches. This is +0.31 inches for the month but we are
still hanging on to a seasonal deficit of -1.60 inches. The rain moved
out of the area late last night, but due to the colder air and
overcast skies, this morning felt raw and chilly. Mid morning featured
a few breaks of sunshine, which have been mostly filtered by the
cirrostratus clouds. While much cooler today, we have remained dry
and mostly cloudy.
Temperatures were the warmest during the overnight hours, as a front
passed through. Behind this front is exceptionally colder temperatures,
though it’s only a few degrees below the normals for this time of year.
Comparatively though, we have dropped 20 degrees in the past 24 hours
so it feels much colder. Dew points have dropped steadily throughout
the day as a dry mass of air moves in behind the warmer, moist air we
had yesterday.
Winds have transitioned from a gusty south-southwesterly flow last
night to a gusty northerly flow for today. With that wind shift has
also seen the dramatic temperature change. The average speed for the
day so far is around 13mph. Gusts have been occasionally getting up
around 20mph, with a peak gust so far of 33mph occurring at 8:34am
this morning.
The visibility has continued to improve as colder air has made its
way to the region. We started at around 60 miles this morning at 7am
and improved to 80 miles by the early afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 49F degrees, which is
2 degrees above the normal high of 47F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 41F degrees, which is 11 degrees above the normal
low of 30F.
