OVERCAST AND BREEZY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS….
A north-south oriented frontal boundary is stalled over New
England as an area of low pressure develops well to the
southeast of Nantucket. Southerly flow aloft is pulling moisture
northward into the region from off the North Carolina coast. As
a result of these features and the ample moisture feeding into
the area, showers have been occurring off and on most of the day.
So far most of the showers have been very light with only 0.01″
of rain being measured through 1pm.
The daytime temperatures are below normal, but it doesn’t feel
all that chilly due to the high dew point values today. Readings
have slowly risen through the 50s to the low 60s by early this
afternoon. Dew point values have also been creeping up through
the 50s, with readings reaching the upper 50s by the 1pm
observation.
Winds were gusty most of the day, but have relaxed quite a bit
this afternoon. A south-southeasterly flow has averaged around
14mph for the day so far. Gusts were frequently exceeding 30mph
during the morning hours before tapering off this afternoon. The
peak gust so far for the day is 38mph, which occurred just before
7:45am this morning.
Visibility has been variable due to the passing showers, but it’s
generally been 40 miles or less throughout the day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 61F degrees, which is
5 degrees below the normal high of 66F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 52F degrees, which is 4 degrees above the
normal low of 48F.
