FOGGY MORNING WITH LIGHT DRIZZLE FOLLOWED BY AFTERNOON
THUNDERSTORMS AND DAMP, RAW CONDITIONS….
For most of the morning we were in the clouds, with limited
visibility and a lingering drizzle. This made the overall feel of
the air a bit raw but tolerable. Then, around 12:30pm standard time,
the wind shifted to the northwest and the air felt much more raw, cold,
and damp. The wind also picked up, averaging from around 7mph to 17mph
during the 12pm hour! With this, came several rounds of rolling thunder
and rain that has went from light to heavy and back to light. Despite
all of this excitement, only 0.07″ of rain has been measured during the
observation period today.
Temperatures remained in the lower to mid 40’s for much of the day
today. The temperature did make it to 40F before the winds shifted
to the northwest as thunderstorms and heavier rain came through, which
dropped temperatures back to the 7am temp of 45F. Dew points remained
the same as the air temperature with the nearly continuous drizzle and
rain storms.
Winds were calm during the midnight hour and have remained light
throughout the first half of the day. Winds have been variable, but
have mostly been out of the south shifting more westerly by the
early afternoon. Once thunderstorms coved into the area, the wind
picked up in intensity and shifted to the northwest. The average speed
for the day so far is only around 7mph. The peak gust for the day so
far is 39mph, which occurred at 12:51pm this afternoon.
Visibility was poor this morning, with 1/16th of a mile and improved
to around 1/8th of a mile by mid morning. Visibility did improve even
with the rain and thunderstorms, but only to about 15 miles, with some
sectors around 30 miles by the early afternoon.
The maximum temperature so far today is 49F degrees, which is
9 degrees below the normal high of 58F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 42F degrees, which is 3 degrees above the
normal low of 39F.
