MORNING CLOUDS AND FOG BURN OFF TO SUNSHINE AND WARM TEMPERATURES….
A mesoscale convective vortex moved through around 1-2am this
morning bringing our first thunderstorm of the year to the area.
A second line of storms moved through about an hour later which
was also accompanied by gusty winds over 40mph. Rainfall from
the two thunderstorms totalled 0.37″.
Dense fog then followed the rain and lingered into the mid to
late morning hours. By noon-time sunshine had taken over with
rapidly warming temperatures, making for a very pleasant
afternoon.
Temperatures started the day in the 40s, but have warmed markedly
to the upper 60s by early this afternoon. Dew point values remain
elevated relative to the time of year with values climbing to the
mid 50s early this afternoon.
Winds were out of the north overnight into the early morning hours
before transitioning to light and variable. The average speed for
the day so far is around 5mph. The peak gust for the day so far is
45mph, which occurred at 2:24am this morning.
Visibility was very much limited this morning due to the dense fog,
with the view down to 1/8th of a mile at times. It has improved
to around 30 miles early this afternoon, except still limited
to only 8-10 miles to the north through east as the fog layer
is lingering over northeast Massachusetts and over the ocean.
The maximum temperature so far today is 68F degrees, which is
11 degrees above the normal high of 57F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 45F degrees, which is 7 degrees above the
normal low of 38F.
