WARM CONDITIONS BROKEN BY A BACKDOOR COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE….
Skies have been mainly sunny today with a decent amount of high
thin cirrus clouds. Some mid level clouds have been moving in from
the west, but a stratus layer/fog bank is lurking just to the
north and east slowly making inroads toward Blue Hill. A backdoor
cold front crossed the Hill just before 12pm bringing a wind shift
to the east-northeast and markedly cooler temperatures.
Temperatures were once again “warm” overnight with the low only
dropping to 58F. With the high launch pad this morning, readings
quickly ramped up reaching the mid 70s by mid morning. However, a
backdoor front crossed the area just before noon with a sharp
decrease in temperatures following it. Readings dropped to match
the morning low of 58F, but has recovered back to the low 60s by
the 1pm observation. Dew points have been holding in the mid to
upper 50s all day, so there remains a bit of a humid feel out
there.
Winds were on the lighter side this morning out of a westerly
direction. A shift to the east-northeast and a fairly robust
increase in speed occurred following the frontal passage. The
average speed for the day so far is around 10mph, but it’s been
closer to 16mph over the last hour. The peak gust for the day so
far is 25mph, which occurred just after 12pm.
Visibility has been rather decent for the most part today with a
view of 50-60 miles most of the day, except dropping markedly to
north through east-southeast due to the encroaching fog bank.
The maximum temperature so far today is 77F degrees, which is
21 degrees above the normal high of 56F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 58F degrees, which is 20 degrees above the
normal low of 38F.
