DENSE SNOW EATING FOG THIS MORNING BURNS OFF TO PARTIAL SUNSHINE
AND MILD TEMPERATURES….
Please note that here at Blue Hill we do not convert to
Daylight Saving Time. As such, all times within this discussion
remains on Standard Time year-round.
Dense fog that enshrouded the Summit most of yesterday,
persisted overnight into the mid morning hours of today. With
dew point values well into the 40s, this proved to be a very
efficient snow eater, reducing our snow depth from 18 inches
at 1pm yesterday, to 13 inches by 7am this morning, and now
under 12″ for the first time since January 25th by 1pm this
afternoon.
The fog lifted by late this morning but skies have remained
cloudy through the day so far despite some brightening late
this morning. There has been no sun here since Wednesday, so
if you’re feeling down lately, this is probably why. It also
shouldn’t be much of a surprise either as March tends to be
one of the cloudier months of the year.
Temperatures were on the warm side overnight with the low for
today so far of 46F! Readings have reached the low to mid 50s
by early this afternoon as we finally get to share in the
above normal temperatures that much of the rest of the country
has been enjoying for at least a week already. Dew point values
as mentioned are in the mid to upper 40s, indicating plenty of
moisture in the atmosphere.
The wind has been fairly steady since the overnight hours. A
south-southwest to southwest flow has been averaging at around
16mph for the day so far. Gusts were stronger right after
midnight, which is when the peak gust for the day so far
of 34mph occurred.
Visibility was very poor through the mid morning hours with
the view less than 1/4 mile. Marked improvement has occurred
by early this afternoon with the view reaching around 50 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 53F degrees, which is
11 degrees above the normal high of 42F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 46F degrees, which is 22 degrees above the
normal low of 24F.
