HISTORIC SNOWFALL WITH PERSISTENT ARCTIC AIR TODAY ….

The biggest headline for today is the snowstorm, as over a foot
of snow has fallen over much of the region, which has been the
most significant snowfall since 2022. As of 1pm today, we have
received 21.7″ from this storm, and the final total will be
finalized once this storm moves out later this evening. The
snowfall accumulation for the day yesterday was 19.4″ which
shattered the daily record of 12.5″ that was set in 1941. The
total liquid equivalent of the total snowfall is 1.87″ which
is a 12:1 ratio; a little lighter than the standard 10:1.

Temperatures were the warmest at midnight with the arrival of a
coastal front. Once it was pushed offshore colder air remained over
the area throughout the day and we remained in the teens for much
of the day. Dew points have been near the air temperature as light
snow was observed for much of the morning and early afternoon hours.

Winds were gusty during the overnight but have been trending lighter
in the past few hours. There has been a dominate northerly flow
for much of the day and the average wind speed so far for the day
is around 14mph. The peak gust occurred early this morning at 12:32am
with a speed of 42mph.

Visibility has been poor due to the snow and foggy conditions. The
overall visibility has fluctuated between 1 mile and 8 miles.

The maximum temperature so far today is 27F degrees, which is
7 degrees below the normal high of 34F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 11F degrees, which is 6 degrees below the
normal low of 17F.
