INCREASING AFTERNOON CLOUDS AS ARCTIC FRONT PUSHES THROUGH….
This morning has featured plenty of sunshine with scattered
higher level clouds. There has been plenty of sunshine and a
lighter southwesterly flow. By the late morning and early
afternoon hours, increasing clouds have been observed, which is
indicative of the arctic front approaching. Winds have also
increased and have turned more westerly.
Temperatures have swung in the other direction from yesterday’s
mild spell, and we have yet to reach the average temperature for
this time of year. Temperatures dipped down to 21F just before
sunrise and despite the mostly sunny conditions, we have only
managed to make it to the lower 30s. Dry arctic air has begun to
settle over the area, as dew points were in the single digits and
low teens throughout the day.
The wind was averaging around 10mph for much of the morning
but has increased to around 15mph in the past couple of hours.
Wind has been mostly out of the west-southwest. The average
speed for the day so far is around 12mph. The peak gust for the
day so far is 31mph which occurred just before 11am this morning.
Visibility has been somewhat limited to around 35-40 miles
due to haziness most of the day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 32F degrees, which is
2 degrees below the normal high of 34F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 21F degrees, which is 4 degrees above the
normal low of 17F.
