A TOUCH MORE SNOW OVERNIGHT; OVERCAST AND COLD TODAY WITH LIGHT WIND….
Yet another weak system passed through overnight bringing with it
another area of light snow and freezing drizzle to the area. 0.2″
of snow was measured with 0.04″ of liquid equivalent between the
snow and ice. All of this activity moved out by 3am this morning.
Today has featured mainly cloudy skies with a brief period of
sunshine early this morning. With very high relative humidity
levels and thin fog in the air, we experience very light rime
icing through most of the morning, something that doesn’t happen
too often here at Blue Hill.
Temperatures are still below normal today. Readings actually stayed
above 20F overnight, but have only risen to the upper 20s by early
this afternoon. Dew point values have been hanging generally in the
mid 20s so far today, which has been close to the air temperature
indicating a rather moisture-rich air mass. This is of course not
helpful when it’s already cold out there.
The wind has been quite light today, only averaging at around 5mph
for the day so far. The peak gust for the day so far, or should we
call it the peak zephyr, was only 12mph. This occurred right at
midnight.
Visibility has been limited all day due to thin fog and haze. The
view has been under 10 miles all day.
The maximum temperature so far today is 28F degrees, which is
7 degrees below the normal high of 35F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 22F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the
normal low of 20F.
