STORM SYSTEM BRINGING WIDESPREAD STEADY LIGHT SNOW TO THE AREA….
Snow began falling just after 1am this morning and has continued
steadily, nonstop, since. Despite the number of hours of snow,
it’s been steadily on the light side throughout the event. As such
only 1.2″ have fallen for the event so far. This has melted
down to 0.10″ of liquid equivalent, giving us a ratio of 12:1 for
this event so far..
Temperatures settled into the upper 20s once the snow started
and have been holding there since. As has been the case for most
of the month to date, this is once again well below the normal
value for mid December.
Winds have been quite light and variable, even going calm for a
couple of hours this morning. The trend however since about mid
morning is for a more northerly wind which has picked up a bit
to generally between 5-10mph. The average speed for the day so
far is only around 5mph. The peak gust so far is only 20mph,
which occurred just after 1pm.
Visibility has of course been limited all day due to the snow
and fog, with the view generally hanging around 1-2 miles for
most of the day, but has crept up to around 5-6 miles early
this afternoon as the snow intensity lessens.
The maximum temperature so far today is 31F degrees, which is
10 degrees below the normal high of 41F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 28F degrees, which is 3 degrees above the
normal low of 25F.
